John Aspinall took his cycling training up a level on June 14th when he completed a 90 mile section of Stage 1 of this year’s Tour de France, which starts for real in North Yorkshire around the same time as this year’s main event; the RKH John O’Groats to London challenge.

It’s fair to say that Yorkshire is getting excited about the TdF with numerous yellow bicycles and French flags hanging from buildings and trees on the route which made for a great spectacle – when John wasn’t looking out for potholes. The ride provided perfect training with plenty of lung-busting hills, some puncture repair work and a close shave with a dry-stone wall while navigating a steep downhill corner.
